Using Media

There are various ways to add media (files and images) in your iyota website.

In image components

Many page templates include an image component at the top. You can either upload a new image directly from your computer, or browse images in the media browser by clicking the appropriate button.

Either method will add the image to the page, displaying its default crop (one of landscape, portrait or square)

You can hover over the image to change the crop to a different shape, you can edit the image (see managing media) or you can remove it (this only removes it from the page, it doesn't delete the image from your site)

To add new image components, please see the help page on templates.

Inline images (around text)

To add images inline with your text, click the "Add image" button on the text editor toolbar to open the browser dialog. You can select images in the same way. You will have additional alignment options to display the image on the left, on the right or as a block between text elements.

Inline images can be moved around easily. Hover over the image and a move cursor will appear in the top left. You can drag the image around your text. You can also use the standard cut-and-paste actions to move it or copy it.

Cropping Images

In order to save editors from having to precisely crop every image uploaded, iyota will automatically crop your images to the closest of the following aspect ratios:

  • Landscape (8:5)
  • Portrait (5:8)
  • Square (1:1)

You can change the crop on any image by selecting the "Crop..." option on the hover menu that appears when you interact with the image.

If your image has a particular aspect ratio (for example a logo or a screenshot) that cannot accommodate any cropping, you can also select "Original (no crop)" to keep the image at its original aspect ratio. The image may will be resized if it is very large.

Inline files

You can add files inline in much the same way as images. Click the "Add file" button on the text editor toolbar.

Getty Images

If your site is non-commercial, then iyota also includes free access to millions of high quality pictures from Getty Images.

To use Getty images, add an image in one of the ways described above, but change the selection from "site images" to "getty images" and enter keyword(s) to search for as you would do on Google.

Click on an image and it will be added in the usual way.

You cannot edit any properties or change the crop on Getty images. A copyright notice is displayed at all times. Otherwise, they behave in the same way as any other image.

If your site is a commercial site, then the getty search option will be hidden.
